Seasonal Maine is a subscription service creating personalized and thoughtful gifts that are convenient and affordable to give.I spoke to its founder, native Mainer Luke Nielsen about how he evokes the spirit of Maine in a box.
Luke! Vacationland in a box sounds amazing. Tell us about how you got this idea.
I was actually just looking for a great Maine-themed gift that I could send to my brother, who moved from Maine to Los Angeles a few years ago. I found some options but all were around $100, included only a few items and didn’t come with the convenience of a subscription. I was amazed nothing fit my need so I decided to build this company for other people like me that love our state!
How do you go about finding what to put in the box?
Maine is full of small businesses making high quality products. Of course I search the internet, but some small businesses don’t have a good web presence, so I also attend the occasional craft fair. These methods really pale in comparison to the overwhelming response we’ve seen from our customers. People that love Maine tend to REALLY love Maine! They’re also not shy at all about letting us know what we should include, and we love that feedback.
Can you tell us about how people can subscribe?
We offer two simple subscriptions at SeasonalMaine.com that deliver the same box: annual ($39.99/box) and seasonal ($49.99/box). Your readers can save an additional 10% off holiday prices using code “MAINEMADE” for a limited time. Be sure to include a free personalized message when checking out on gift orders – that’s always a nice touch.
What are some of your favorite boxes so far?
Personally I’m really looking forward to the spring box because I love anything and everything related to maple! We’re planning on having maple flavored whoopie pies, maple syrup, maple flavored popcorn, maple sugar candy and a bunch of other great items in that box. Can’t wait!
If someone wants to be in a Seasonal Maine box, how can they?
Send me a quick note! I always enjoy learning about awesome Maine products and I can be reached at email@example.com.
Can you give us a hint at some upcoming goodies that people will get if they subscribe?
We’re always finding new products to make each seasonal box better, but I’m really excited about some of the items in the upcoming winter box! Have you ever had a red velvet whoopie pie? What about double chocolate? They’re amazing! Fox Family potato chips is another personal favorite of Maine from up in the county, and of course you can’t forget about blueberry jam! Moose smooch lip balm from Mad Gab’s is another must have for winter. The list goes on!
